Toss it? No way! Bring your broken items along and expert repairers will help you fix it!
The service is free, but you may need to purchase parts, and tips will be gratefully received!
Visit Repair Cafe The Gap website for more information and to access the booking system.
Hereโs what to expect on the day!
If you havenโt booked: when you arrive, youโll be given a copy of the House Rules, which youโll need to read and agree to by signing. On the back, youโll find a registration form to fill in about your broken item. If you have booked, we will have your form filled out ready for you to sign.
Hereโs a link to the House Rules, if youโd like to get a head start: https://www.repaircafe.org/en/house-rules/
Only one item per person will be fixed at a time. You can bring more, but will need to rejoin the end of the queue for subsequent items.
Last registration will be at 11.30am
There may be some triage involved to work out which repairer can help you. Once that repairer is available, youโll be called in.
While you wait, check out whatโs on offer at the kitchen cafe. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and a variety of treats will be available to purchase for $2 per item (to help us pay the rent and insurance).</p
Donโt forget to chat to other waiting visitors! Repair cafes are all about community, so get to know your neighbours!
When itโs your turn, a volunteer will show you to the repair station with your item, where you will help the repairer fix it! Repair cafes aim to share the knowledge, so that even more things can be repaired.
If your item is fixed, weโll take a photo to record the moment โ say โFixed!โ
If your item canโt be fixed on the day, your repairer will advise you of your options. You may need to purchase parts and come back, or it may be a job for a professional repairer.
Some items will be beyond repair. At least youโll know for sure.
Your repairer will complete the rego form to record the outcome.
All items, fixed or not, must be taken away with you. We are not a donation point and have no storage space. If you no longer want your repaired item, we suggest you gift it yourself on your local Buy Nothing group, or donate it to charity.
When youโre ready to leave, youโll check out at the front desk and hand in your rego form for our records. If youโre happy with the service, weโll gratefully accept a donation (to help us pay our rent and insurance)! Cash and EFTPOS are available at the front desk.
Lastly, please bring your patience and kindness. We welcome feedback and constructive criticism, but wonโt tolerate any bad attitudes or abuse. We are all volunteers doing our best to help you, the community and the environment!
