Environmental Beauty of The Gap

Although Brisbane overall is an amazing city, and the most biodiverse city in Australia, there are many aspects unique to The Gap and its surrounding areas. It is surrounded by forested hills and backs onto the D’Aguilar national park. The people who live in The Gap are also special. For example, did you know that 27% of The Gap residents volunteer compared to only 19% across Queensland? This may be a result of the many community and neighbourhood groups that exist in The Gap.

There are community groups devoted to the environment, such as Paten Park Native Nursery, Sown, Habitat or Men of the Trees. Other groups have an educational focus as well such as Yooralla Street Community Garden, or the Gap Garden Club where people can learn about the art of gardening in a subtropical climate, or SOWN, where people can become experts in waterway habitat perseveration. There are many community organisations that provide support for charitable matters such as Rotary or Lions and those that offer activities such as The Scouts or the Men’s or She Sheds. Others provide advocacy, such as Climate Action 4061, or practical ideas of what to do with waste products such as Boomerang bags.

Whether your interest is more in water, energy, air quality or environmental matters, you can be certain to find a group you can join in The Gap that will represent your ideals.
