A large number of government and non-government organisations have come together to create
a report card for the health of Southeast Queensland’s waterways that sustain our living. The Gap is within the lower Brisbane area and unfortunately its not great news with water quality only receiving a D+. The report lists areas of urgent action specifically restoring vegetation along the creeks, and reducing urban run-off and pollution. High nutrients are a particular concern. This could result from fertilizer use, but also substances such as washing powder, cleaning detergents or car wash detergent entering the streams.
